2023 Mussel Monitoring Workshop with the Wisconsin DNR

DATE

August 26th, 2023 | 10AM – 1PM

Join Milwaukee Riverkeeper and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource’s Mussel Biologists where the East and West Branch of the Milwaukee River meets to learn more about native mussels and participate in a mussel survey.

At this event, you will learn about mussels’ critical importance to our waterways, their unique lifecycle, and what characteristics to use to help identify them. Participants will learn how to identify and make observations using the iNaturalist app, which uploads data directly to the WDNR’s Wisconsin Mussel Monitoring Program. Data collected from this project will help us better understand the population health of this threatened group.

LOCATION

Ice Age Trail at County HWY H (43.498417, -88.1944)

COST

The event is FREE.

Because mussel surveys need to be completed when the river’s water level is low, this event is subject to cancellation pending the water lever at the time of the event. Location of event is subject to change depending on the WDNR’s monitoring needs.
