You’ll learn about basic survey techniques for observing\, identifying\, and documenting freshwater mussels and have an opportunity to put those skills to use. \nForward Outdoor will shuttle us from Badger Meter River Park to Thiensville Village Park. We’ll help get you fitted for life jackets\, and after a brief orientation\, we’ll hit the water to paddle back to Brown Deer. You don’t have to be an expert kayaker to participate. We’ll paddle at a relaxed pace perfect for anyone curious about nature. \nThis guided experience is a great opportunity to learn about mussel surveys while enjoying a beautiful stretch of the Milwaukee River. All gear is included with your kayak rental. New date: August 4th\nDescription:\n\n\nJoin Forward Outdoor and the Friends of Lakeshore State Park for a community cleanup at the Dock at Discovery World. We’ll help put the finishing touches on Milwaukee’s Lakeshore Inlet ahead of the USA Triathlon National Championships. \nThe swim portion of the race will take place in the protected waters between Discovery World\, Summerfest\, and Lakeshore State Park\, with athletes starting from the Dock at Discovery World. Milwaukee recently joined the Swimmable Cities Alliance\, and this inlet is a good example of one of our Lakefront aras that is already clean and swimmable. Like any urban waterfront\, however\, litter can accumulate over time. DESCRIPTION:Events\nIntro to Paddling\nRegister Now \nDescription:\nFirst-time paddler or beginner? Get your feet wet with Milwaukee Riverkeeper and the experts at Forward Outdoor.  We’ll go over the basics of paddling\,  safety\, and rules of the river.  No experience is necessary\, this short trip will help attendees get comfortable launching\, taking out\, and paddling.  Attendees will experience a river trip that’s easy to replicate on your own.  Paddlers will meet at Badger Meter Park before being shuttled to Thiensville Village Park. There\, Milwaukee Riverkeeper staff will lead a 15-minute lesson on the basics of paddling technique before a paddle back to Badger Meter Park via the Milwaukee River.  \nParticipants should arrive at the parking lot in Badger Meter Park at 9:45 AM\, overflow parking is available on-street nearby. At 10:00 AM the shuttle will leave for Thiensville Village Park where the boats will be unloaded and everyone will be fit for personal flotation devices and paddles. Expect a relaxed pace with time built in for teaching and a short bathroom stop.
