Our summer season has been challenging for all, but exciting too. We’ve seen people find or renew their connection with nature, and our waterways. There’s been a renaissance in our natural areas, with more camping, more hiking, and more time spent in our parks and most importantly on the water! In a time when our burdens weigh heavy, the outdoors has provided an outlet for adventure and exploration.
We’re proud to welcome in new and returning nature lovers, and are excited to also usher in a new wave of environmental stewardship too. Increased traffic in green and blue spaces has also meant an increase in waste, and our inability to gather means less ability to keep up with it. While we’re also delighted to see people using masks and gloves, we’re also seeing an uptick in medical litter. Disposable masks and gloves often end up on the ground instead of the trash.
Fortunately, this fall, Milwaukee Riverkeeper is asking everyone to come together to help clean up our waterways. We’ll be providing free supplies for participants (including a sweet tote bag!). In turn, all we ask for is a couple hours of your time — and to stay six feet away from others, of course!
After all, nature has given us so much these past months. Why not give back?
