Mussel Monitoring: Timed Mussel Survey Training

Register Now

Description:

This event is geared towards volunteers who are willing to do timed surveys independently.

Plan to meet at Butler Frontier Park (12811 W Custer Ave, Butler, WI 53007). During this training, we will review the protocol for timed surveys, data collection methods, tips & tricks, and how to submit data to the statewide effort. Our target area for 2026 is focused on the Menomonee River Watershed. During the second half of the training, we will enter the stream and complete a timed survey as a group. Please indicate your wader size on the registration form, or plan to wear shoes for wading.

Following this training, volunteers will be equipped to complete timed surveys independently or as part of small group at designated sites within the Menomonee River and its tributaries. Milwaukee Riverkeeper staff will also discuss how to coordinate future timed surveys.

Note: Mussel surveys must take place during periods of low water. This event is subject to cancellation or relocation based on river levels.
