30th Anniversary Art Sale: Request for Artist Contributions

Milwaukee Riverkeeper invites local artists to help celebrate our 30th Anniversary by contributing an original piece of artwork centered on the theme “Protect What You Love.”

We’re seeking diverse interpretations inspired by the Milwaukee River Basin.  Whether it’s the river’s wildlife, flowing waters, community gatherings, fishing, kayaking, or simply a peaceful moment by the shore, use your water story and personal connection to Milwaukee’s waters to inspire your piece.

Participating Artists will receive a 8″x8″ wooden art panel to create on, and may use any medium that fits the panel and can be safely exhibited.

Completed pieces will become part of a collective installation exhibited on October 9, 2025 during our Watershed Moments: 30 Years of Keeping Our Rivers anniversary event at the Ivy House in Milwaukee.  Artwork will honor our rivers and communities while also serving as a fundraising opportunity for the organization.  Attendees will be offered the opportunity to purchase and select an art panel during the event.

Panels must be returned to Milwaukee Riverkeeper no later than October 1, 2025 to be featured in the exhibit.

This is a unique way to lend your talents to a good cause.  These art pieces will be featured as the voice of our waters and our communities during our 30th Anniversary event.

What’s Your Water Story? Use the prompts below to inspire your artwork.

What memory or moment by the river fills you with joy, peace, or wonder?
How can you capture that feeling in your art?

What does a healthy river mean to you, your family, or your community?
Imagine how life would change without clean, thriving waterways.

If you could give a voice to the Milwaukee River, what story would it tell?
How might it express gratitude, beauty, or a call for care?

Who or what are you ultimately protecting when you protect water?
Think of people, wildlife, or future generations who rely on these rivers.
