Get Involved with Milwaukee Riverkeeper
At Milwaukee Riverkeeper, we work with our local communities to protect and improve water quality and wildlife habitat in our river corridors and to advocate for sound land use in the Milwaukee, Menomonee, and Kinnickinnic River Watersheds.
We’re working towards future where the waters of the Milwaukee River Basin are once again healthy and safe for swimming and fishing and can be enjoyed by all.

Explore Our Events
We host a wide range of events throughout the year to connect with our community, restore our waterways, and enjoy the beautiful rivers our area has to offer. From fishing clinics and kayak tours to tree planting, river cleanups, and film series, we work with our partners to ensure we have a little something for everyone to enjoy.
Create Meaningful Impact
Big or Small, Every Action Matters
When it comes to protecting our local waterways, there’s nothing more powerful than working directly with the communities we serve. At MRK, we prioritize the needs and concerns of individuals at the forefront of outreach, education, and advocacy. It’s no easy task, pushing for long-term, sustainable change, but together with our local families, businesses, and organizations we can make it happen. Explore how you can get involved below:

Monitor Our Waters
Did you know we manage one of the largest community-based monitoring programs in the Midwest? We work with everyday folks out in our communities to monitor the health of our waters, testing things like:
- Water Temperature
- Oxygen
- PH
- Turbidity
- Phosphorus
- Streamflow
- Macroinvertibrates
We offer one-day and long-term monitoring opportunities to ensure anyone who wants to help monitor our waters can do so based on their schedule. Help us keep tabs on local water quality throughout the year! We’ll help you learn everything you need to know to observe and report.
Report Pollution
Our community members are our best eyes and ears when it comes to identifying pollution in our waterways! Anyone can report pollution to Milwaukee Riverkeeper and our team will investigate the issue and take action. If you witness any kind of river related environmental abuse or disturbances, tell us about it so we can help.
Adopt-a-River
Looking to make a BIG impact with your family, neighborhood, organization, or business? Adopt a section of one of the waterways in the Milwaukee River Basin and work to keep it clean with two or more clean ups a year. This signature program creates real opportunities for folks in our community to make lasting connections to our rivers throughout the year.
Join a Cleanup
We’ve got a lot of waterways to protect and restore. That’s why we host river cleanups throughout the year, spanning over 150 locations throughout the greater Milwaukee area. Join neighbors, friends, and family for a day of making memories, exploring our rivers, and helping make sure our waterways are swimmable, fishable, and accessible to everybody.
Host a Free Program or Presentation
We proudly offer free classroom programming and educational presentations for schools, businesses, organizations, and community groups! Help people of all ages jumpstart their love of our rivers and the natural habitat that surrounds them by working with our team to find just the right program or presentation for your group.
Volunteer
At Milwaukee Riverkeeper, we believe that sound conservation and restoring our rivers can be fun and impactful. We host a wide range of events throughout the year that are made possible by our amazing volunteers! Whether you’re looking to join for a day and help clean up a section of river or plant trees, or you’re ready to do something more long-term, we have many opportunities to get involved and make a difference.
