A New Year means a time of renewed commitments to our communities and to our waters. The Great Lakes — Superior, Huron, Michigan, Ontario and Erie — make up the largest body of freshwater on the PLANET. More than 30 million people, including Milwaukee residents, live within the Great Lakes Basin, relying on this precious shared resource for drinking water as well as recreational and economic opportunities.
These lakes are home to over 3,500 species of plants and animals and more than 170 fish species. This special ecosystem needs strong protections in place to preserve these waters for future generations. The Great Lakes Compact, was signed into law in 2008 to do just that, but the threat of a thirsty world means its future remains, like our waters, uncertain.
The tradition of the Great Lakes is time-honored, our personal commitments are not. It’s time to renew our promise to these treasured waters.
Pledge your support for the STRONG protections in the Great Lakes Compact
